Lotta Stitches
Custom Show Clothes, Rail Jackets, Chaps

Many times people ask me where I get my western show clothes. Although some folks like to keep a wonderful seamstress to themselves, I have a different philosophy. After all, nobody buying custom clothing is going to come out looking like anybody else! Too many variables! To that end, here's a link to a wonderful lady, Lotta Dages, owner and creative talent behind Lotta Stitches. Nobody can fit a pair of chaps better ... and that goes for jackets and such, too. Lotta isn't just a great designer and tailor, she's also a horsewoman so she understands how show clothes must look, feel and fit to create just the right look in the show ring. She's up on trends, too ... and interprets them in a very exciting way. If I own something Lotta didn't make, she's likely had a hand in fitting it for me. I've recommended her to many friends and even competitors over the years, all with rave results. I happily drive four hours (one way) every so often to see her, to get things made and fitted. She's worth the time, believe me. She's also made stunning outfits for folks far away, and they fit right -- just make sure you send your "real" measurements and not those of some willowy model (unless, of course, you ARE a willowy model!) Lotts is indeed a rare treasure!
Equine Color Genetics

For one of the most interesting and educational pieces I've ever read about gray in color genetics see The Ever Changing World of Gray on Louise Gilliland's Winsdown Farm site.

Dee McNealy & "Blue"

This is Dee McNealy, with her former show ring partner Tangled Up in Blue, who is enjoying retirement at Dream Acres. Care to venture a guess on Blue's age? Both ladies are a foolers -- eternally young-looking! Dee successfully showed this beautiful gaited mare to some nice wins on the Kentucky circuit in their younger days. As recently as this spring, our vet's wife asked how much showing Dee planned to do with Blue this year -- she was shocked to hear that Blue is 24 years old! This is what the golden years can look like when a horse has good genes, great care, and lots of love. No question that Dee loves this mare -- as we all do.
