Pedigree (PDF)

Slama’s Storm is positively bred to the Louisville blue. He is by two-time WCC Phi Slama Jama, incomparable sire of countless World Champions, Sweepstakes Champions, Classics Champions and futurity winners. Slama’s Storm is out of Santana's Summer Storm -- a full sister to WC CH Springtime Santana -- by WCC Sultan's Santana, and he is the only full sibling to the grand fine harness mare, CH Sweetheart of Sigma Phi. His second dam is the great-producing mare, Kimbeland's Victory Belle, who also is the second dam of WC CH Net Worth. His third dam is a half-sister to Kendallview Caprice, who produced RWC Hide-A-Way’s Fire-A-Way. Indeed, this is a family of great show horses -- and great producers.

About the Video

Slama’s Storm was invited to the All American Cup Stallion Parade and, to our knowledge, this was his very first appearance before the public. Despite the spotlight and the hugely appreciative crowd, “Stormy” did remarkably well.

For those folks who think Saddlebreds are all “artificial” – please note that this stallion has not been in training, has not been wearing a tail set, has a very short foot and is wearing only the aluminum plates the farrier tacked on him the day before this exhibition.. So what you are seeing is Stormy’s extraordinary natural athleticism. Note his strong hocks that move correctly beneath him, and his remarkable natural action up front. His movement is as straight and true as it is lofty and effortless. We didn’t walk a step in this exhibition, but this special stallion has motion even at the walk. Though he’s got the cresty neck of an aged stud who hasn’t been maintained as a show horse, you can clearly see that his long neck sets into his beautiful shoulder just right, and he has phenomenal flexion at the poll. I have ridden this magnificent stallion and his balanced movement is exceeded only by his excellent manners. Thankfully, we’ve seen that he’s passed along these highly desirable qualities to his colts. And that’s what really matters, isn’t it?

The Stormwatcher

This is Stormy’s first colt for us, born March 4, 2007, The Stormwatcher (barn name “Zeus") – owned by Marianne Gauger. Zeus is out of Place Your Bets, one of Bob Ruxer’s last farm-raised mares and out of his last surviving daughter of the immortal Supreme Sultan, The Betsy. “Bets” is by Ruxer’s young stallion, Commander in Charge, who is by Five-Gaited WCC (SA) Zoovorbij Commander in Chief and out of Mrs. Snuffleupagus, a full sister to WCC CH Mr. Snuffleupagus.

These great horses are out of the incomparable BHF Sultan’s Radiance and by Talent Town, who stood at Ruxer Farms his entire breeding career.

Helen Frances
This is Helen Frances with her dam, The Lady in Lace, one of the last foals raised at the famous Ruxer Farm in Jasper, Indiana. Helen is by Stormy and is named after my mother … and they share a lot of the same fine qualities! My mother always said that if there was reincarnation, she’d want to come back as one of my horses. In Helen, she might just have accomplished that.

Helen’s dam, “Lacy,” is by Ruxer’s young stud Commander in Charge, who is by Five-Gaited WCC (SA) Zoovorbij Commander in Chief and out of Mrs. Snuffleupagus, a full sister to WCC CH Mr. Snuffleupagus. These great horses are out of the incomparable BHF Sultan’s Radiance and by the famous and prolific Talent Town, who stood at Ruxer Farms his entire breeding career. Lacy’s dam, London Lace, is as royally bred as they come. She’s by Talent Town and out of Queen of Siam, a daughter of BHF Starlike.. Starlike produced CH Like The Sultan, CH Candle Dance, CH King of Siam, CH Starlike Sultan, and Sultan’s Royalty, who stood his entire breeding career at Ruxer’s.

He's Gone Platinum

He's Gone Platinum, aka Bobby, out of Send Her Roses, a full sister to many times WCC Manila Thrilla, and by Slama's Storm. He was born on Good Friday and is a pistol.  He has a big trot and has been spotted shuffling a bit... perhaps he's thinking about racking already.

Bottom picture is Marty (The Jazz Player) and Bobby playing around.

For one of the most interesting and educational pieces I've ever read about gray in color genetics see The Ever Changing World of Gray on Louise Gilliland's Winsdown Farm site.

Congratulations to Jeff Winton and Jim Modica on the purchase of He's Gone Platinum, a very promising colt out of a full sister to Manila Thrilla, by Slama's Storm. Jeff and Jim have tremendous experience with show animals, including Westminster-winning whippets and greyhounds, as well as top show cattle. Jeff says owning a Saddlebred has been a long time dream -- we think this dreamy colt is pretty special, and we think his new owners are, too!

Sir Earl Grey

Introducing the long-awaited foal of our well-known show star, Emily Grey -- this is her beautiful stud colt, Sir Earl Grey, by Slama's Storm. The $64,000 question here is, will Earl turn gray like his sire and dam? He has a 75 percent chance -- but he could very well remain chestnut and the joke would be on us all! Whatever color he is, he looks like a very good one ... the picture says it all ... and we know that's what it's all about! Emily is a superb mother -- we believe she's wanted this job for a very long time and we're very, very happy and relieved that mother and baby are doing fine.
